Abigail Rosen

Director, Dramaturg, Producer

DIRECTING

Abigail specializes in working in new play development. She is the Executive Producer of PlayGround-NY, the New York branch of a multi-city Playwright Incubator.

Abigail is a frequent director for Playground-NY’s monthly new play festivals, and focuses on cultivating long-term relationships with the resident playwrights and actors.

More traditional directing credits include All Shook Up, Angels in America, and The Taming of the Shrew.

Abigail did not know what dramaturgy was until a friend told her she was good at it.

Since that discovery, she has dramaturged for the off-Broadway production of Día y Noche at New York’s LAByrinth Theater, and for several off-Broadway developmental workshops.

Abigail hosts monthly Playwright Circles at her apartment, which are opportunities for both herself and artist friends to develop dramaturgical language and create community.

DRAMATURG

As the Executive Producer of PlayGround-NY, Abigail is in charge of producing monthly festivals, each featuring six, brand-new, ten minute plays.

As a producer, Abigail focuses on hiring artists to work on projects they do not normally get the chance to, so that they can stretch their artistry in a supportive environment. She also makes a concerted effort to pair together actors, writers, and directors with new collaborators, with the goal of creating new, long-term artistic partnerships.

PRODUCING

Abigail has been playing guitar for about sixteen years now, and is just starting to get pretty good.
